We buy a bag of chicken breasts and 2-3 lbs of hamburger a week, every week. Then, John brings home what we lovingly call "mark down meat" when they have it. It's meat that they have at the grocery store that is getting near it's date and they mark it down to sell it. We get things like pot roast, stew meat and pork chops for WAY cheaper than it normally is and it allows us to eat nicer cuts of meat than what we could normally afford. The meat is still good, just needs to be cooked right away.
This week, right as I was shopping, A lady picked up a bag of frozen garlic chicken breasts and it opened up. It opened up in a way that it couldnt be closed up again. She didnt touch the chicken, just took the bag to John (who was on duty). He was able to mark the bag down to $2.45!!! So, I didnt hesitate. I just took it.
Today, I made that chicken for dinner and Liv LOVED IT!!! I heard, "Thanks mama! I loved that chicken!!"
When I told her it was already seasoned meat that daddy had marked down, she said, "Woohoo for marked down meat!!"
Call me cheap if you want to, but for me to stay home, we've had to tighten the belt. The kids get tons of veggies and fruit and other forms of protein but before John worked at the grocery store, we didnt always get nicer cuts of meat. Now, we get to try a variety of things that are marked down to move (not just meat) and I can still keep my grocery budget low.

That is fantastic! What a great find for you!
Last year, we started raising our own cow (Josh's parent's live on a 5 acre farm). It is the only way that we could EVER afford to have T-Bone steaks for dinner. Plus, the meat is SO lean! We could never afford to buy 95/5 hamburger before.
We are considering buying one of his pigs next, just to know that it is home grown meat and SOOOO much cheaper.
Mom's can be so efficient, can't we?
Girl you do what you have to to get a good deal. Good for you for finding a way to make it work!
Definitely Woo-hoo for marked down meat!!
Yay for mark downs! That rocks!
That's not cheap! It's great to get those blessings of a deal!
And all added to the babywearing blogroll! : )
